I'm in a bit of a pickle here. My wife has gotten locked out of her iCloud account and it's asking for a 28-character recovery key that she doesn't remember creating. We've tried all the typical methods to regain access, but they all require her iCloud password, which isn't being accepted. She's using an iPhone 16 Pro that was recently updated to version 26.2. We really don't want to lose any of the photos and videos we have of our grandkids! Any advice would be super helpful. Thanks!

A good workaround is to use AirDrop! You can transfer all the important photos and videos from her device without needing the Apple ID password. Once you’ve got everything saved, you might consider just turning off the iCloud Photo Library and starting fresh with a new account.
The only real options here are to recover the password or find the recovery key. If neither of those is possible, there's not much you can do. It's a tough situation, but those are your paths forward.
If you still have access to the iPhone, you can go to Settings, tap the user profile at the top, and under Sign in and Security, you can try disabling the recovery key or even generating a new one. Just keep in mind it will keep asking for the password at almost every step.
I found a few important notes on Apple's support page. Basically, if a recovery key was set up, it disables the standard recovery options. This means, without the recovery key, you’re pretty much locked out for good. Make sure you don’t lose your recovery key; it’s crucial for accessing your account. You can’t just reset it without that key, so really, it’s vital to keep that in a safe place.

Every time she clicks anything, it keeps asking for the password. It's a real hassle!
