Is My RAM Compatible If They’re Different Versions?

I'm having some issues with my setup and could use some help. Here's what I'm working with:

- CPU: i9 9900k (3.6GHz)
- GPU: RTX 4060 8GB
- RAM: 4x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX 2666MHz (this is where the problem lies)
- SSD: 2TB WD Black SN770, 1TB WD Black SN7100
- Motherboard: ASUS Prime Z390-A

The issue is that my PC freezes randomly and then restarts after about 10 seconds as if nothing happened. I tried enabling XMP in the UEFI, but that made my system unstable and wouldn't even boot into Windows. I also noticed that one of my RAM sticks looks a bit different from the others. Right now, I'm only using 2 sticks (16GB total), but I really need more RAM for my work. I've linked some pictures to help clarify the situation.

It looks like there's a chance that the mismatched RAM could be causing your instability, especially if it’s from a different batch or version. Try testing each stick individually and see how they perform. If the problematic one doesn’t work on its own, you might need to replace it.

Exactly! Isolating each stick is the best way to figure out if the RAM is the issue. If one of them is bad, you'll save a lot of time in troubleshooting.

Different versions of RAM can sometimes be compatible, but they might not perform optimally together, especially if they have different chips or timings. Have you tried using only the stick that seems different by itself? If it causes issues alone, it may be faulty. In general, mixing RAM versions is a gamble, and you might want to consider getting matching pairs for the best stability.

That's a good point! Sometimes, even if they’re similar, different versions can just cause headaches. It’s always best to match them up as closely as possible.
