Hey everyone! I'm dealing with Poly VVX 301 desk phones in our internal network and I'm locked out of the web configuration interface. It asks for an admin password set by our previous service provider, and they won't share it with me. Here's what I'm trying to figure out:
- Is there a way to locally reset the admin password on these devices?
- I did a factory reset, but I still can't access the web interface.
- Are there any restrictions that could stop me from managing the device after a reset?
The phones are in my possession and on my network, and I'm looking to manage them through a new provider. Thanks for any tips!

To reset your Poly VVX 301, try a proper factory reset using the setup button on the back while powering it on. This might clear any passwords and let you set it up fresh. After resetting, the default admin password should be something like '456' or '123'. Just keep in mind that if your phone is still linked to a provisioning server, it might get new settings before you manage to log in. Check DHCP options to see if it’s pointing to a provisioning server that the previous provider may have set up.
True! And keep an eye out for any auto-reprovisioning that might reset your changes.
Just so you know, if these phones are managed by your provider, they usually maintain control over admin access. If they’re yours, then doing a hard factory reset should be your best bet. Otherwise, you might be permanently locked out if they push custom settings every time you reset.
Thanks for clarifying! I’m hoping they’re mine and I can regain control.
That’s the risk with provider-locked phones. Fingers crossed for you!
It sounds like these phones might still be tied to the old provider's settings. After a factory reset, if the phone reboots quickly, it's possible it’s just pulling in provisioning settings from them again. You can also try breaking the ZTP process by hitting 'cancel' during boot-up, which might let you access the admin settings again. If that fails, you might need to flash the firmware using TFTP to wipe everything clean!
I had the same issue where my phones kept grabbing the old config. Resetting and checking the DHCP options really helped me.
Flashing firmware sounds complicated, but if you're out of options, it might be worth the effort!

Yeah, I had to do that with my phones too! Also, don’t forget to check the recovery mode options, sometimes that gives you access to reconfigure everything.
