Why does my office printer keep going offline every day?

I manage a Xerox VersaLink C415 printer in my office, and I've been facing a recurring issue. The printer runs fine initially but starts showing as 'offline' on all computers the next day. I switched it from DHCP to a static IP, which worked for months, but randomly, it's now back to going offline. I see messages like 'Limited IPv6 connectivity' at times, and honestly, I'm out of ideas on how to solve this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

A possible short-term fix could be to get a cheap timer switch to reboot the printer daily. Set it to refresh its connection overnight. It's not elegant, but it might get you through the day until a permanent fix!

First off, always set printers to a static IP; using DHCP can lead to issues like this. Have you tried disabling IPv6? Also, check if there’s a print server setup and make sure it's configured correctly. Sometimes, switching ports or checking the driver settings helps, too. Don't forget to check for updated firmware for the printer!

Sounds like solid advice! I’d also suggest looking at your network setup to see if there are any duplicate IPs that might be causing conflicts.

Yeah, exactly! It’s surprising how often that can be the issue. A quick ping test on the printer's IP when it goes offline can help verify that.

Could be a case of a duplicate IP address on your network. Next time you see it offline, try pinging it to see if you get a response. Also, look at the DNS records to see if anything else is conflicting.

You might want to disable any power-saving features on the printer. It could be going into sleep mode and not waking correctly, causing that offline error. Keeping it active may just solve the problem!

Good point! Mine had similar issues before, and turning off energy saving made it way more reliable.

Exactly! Even if you manually wake it, if it’s still in energy-saving mode, it might have trouble connecting.

Is the printer connected over PoE? Sometimes energy saving features or power settings tied to ports can cause issues. Make sure that's disabled if it is.
