How do I connect my 8-pin PSU to a 12-pin GPU?

Hey folks! I'm putting together my first PC and ran into a bit of a snag. My power supply unit (PSU) is a MAG A850GL with an 8-pin cable, but I just got an MSI 5080 Trio Gaming GPU that uses a 12-pin connector. The GPU did come with an adapter, so I'm wondering if I can simply use that to connect the two. Do I need to go out and buy a separate 12-pin cable, or can I manage with the 3x8 to 1x12 adapter? Also, will one 8-pin cable be sufficient for the adapter, or do I need two?

It seems like your PSU has a native PCI-E 5.0 cable, so you should use that if you have it.

Honestly, you might just want to consider buying a new PSU. It could save you a lot of hassle in the long run.

If your PSU didn’t come with the necessary cables, you might want to reach out to the previous owner to see if they have them. It’s as crucial as missing an engine in a car! Also, each leg on your adapter requires its own PCI-E connection, so if the adapter has three connectors, you’ll need three separate PCI-E feeds.
