How Can I Unlock a Second-Hand Lenovo Laptop Locked with BitLocker and BIOS Password?

Hey folks! I recently snagged a second-hand Lenovo ThinkPad L14 Gen 5 at a really low price since I'm a student on a tight budget. Unfortunately, it's locked with BitLocker, and there's also a supervisor password on the BIOS. It looks like the laptop used to belong to Cognizant. I'm not after any company data; I just want to wipe it clean and install a fresh OS for my schoolwork. I tried using a bootable USB to reinstall the system, but it doesn't show up in the boot menu, and I can't change any BIOS settings because of that supervisor password. Is there any way to resolve this, or am I stuck with a laptop I can't use? I'd appreciate any help!

You’re in a tough spot. Unfortunately, if it's got BitLocker and a BIOS supervisor password, you might be out of luck. To get past BitLocker, you typically need the recovery key, which is tied to the original owner. As for the BIOS, there are ways to bypass the supervisor password, but they can be complicated and might void any warranties. If you didn’t pay much, it might not be worth the hassle unless you can recover those passwords.

That’s true! Plus, even if you reinstall Windows, it could auto-join back to an MDM system like Intune. Definitely not worth the headache unless you get the original owner's info.

Honestly, if it's coming from a company like Cognizant and it’s locked down tight, there's a chance it might be stolen. I'd suggest trying to get your money back. It’s not worth the risk of running into more issues down the road!

Yeah, definitely! Look for a reputable laptop or find a cheaper model that doesn’t have these kinds of locks. Better safe than sorry!

You might want to consider replacing the system board if you can't unlock the BIOS. It's a more drastic solution and can cost you, but it could be a feasible way to bypass all these restrictions. Just make sure it’s a legit fix!
