Hey everyone! I've had my setup for a while, but I've recently upgraded to an ultrawide monitor (3440x1440) and now my Ryzen 5 3600X is struggling. It used to handle games at 144fps with my RTX 2080 Super, but now I'm experiencing overheating issues and lag, with some games barely hitting 70fps. My budget for a CPU upgrade is around 221 euros (257 dollars). Here's my current setup:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X 6-Core
- GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GeForce RTX 2080 Super
- RAM: HyperX Fury RGB (2x8GB) 3200MHz DDR4
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming Wi-Fi
- Power Supply: be quiet! Straight Power 11 Gold 1000W
- HDD: Seagate Barracuda
- SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 500GB

The overheating is making it hard to enjoy gaming. I would really appreciate any suggestions on upgrades, especially within my budget. Thanks!

Sounds like the cooler might be the issue here! Also, the Ryzen 5 5600X is still a solid option and should work well for your games. Just lowering the graphics probably won't fix the bottleneck you've got going on. If your CPU is overheating, upgrading your cooler could help a lot.

Totally agree! If you have a 3600X, it might be holding you back a bit. Getting a good cooler could make a huge difference.

Honestly, at that resolution, your RTX 2080 Super could be the bottleneck rather than the Ryzen. The 5600X shouldn't struggle with it. But you should definitely check to see if the CPU is thermal throttling—reapplying thermal paste or getting a better cooler could help. Don't forget to consider some performance boosts like DLSS if possible!

That's super helpful advice. I wouldn't have thought to check thermal throttling! Thanks!

With your budget of 221 euros, you might not be able to jump all the way to 144fps from 70fps. A 5600X would be a decent upgrade from the 3600X, but if you can find a 5700X3D or 5800X3D, they pack a punch for gaming on AM4, although they might be pricier. Just keep your expectations realistic depending on what's available.

Yeah, even if you can't upgrade the GPU right now, sometimes just a solid cooler can make a big difference!
