Kubuntu vs Debian with KDE: What’s the Best Choice for a New User?

I've tried both, and while Debian has its perks, I believe Kubuntu is much more user-friendly, especially for someone just starting. It gets updates more frequently and supports hardware better over time, so you’re less likely to run into issues.

Kubuntu is pretty much an Ubuntu version that uses the KDE interface instead of GNOME. The big difference is that Ubuntu makes several changes and improvements over stock Debian, which makes things smoother for new users. In essence, you get all the benefits of Ubuntu's ecosystem with the KDE desktop, which is why many people prefer Kubuntu for a first-time experience.

If you're using older hardware or need stable performance, then Debian is solid. But it tends to have older software versions for stability. On the other hand, Ubuntu (and hence Kubuntu) offers newer packages and a ton of user-friendly tools that come pre-installed, which can save you a lot of hassle.

If you're looking at the long-term support and stability, Kubuntu shines there too. They keep up-to-date with patches and support for hardware, so in the end, even if years pass, you can rely on it to work fairly well.

As a Kubuntu user myself, I definitely suggest it for beginners. Everything is designed to work well together, which makes the experience better. Plus, installing drivers, like for Nvidia, is generally straightforward. Debian might be great too, but I find that Kubuntu gives you a smoother ride right out of the box.
