Help Me Switch from Windows 11 to Linux Mint Without Issues

Hey everyone! I'm really new to this whole Linux thing and I'm trying to switch my Lenovo Ideapad from Windows 11 to Linux Mint. I made a bootable USB using Rufus and managed to access the boot menu. However, I hesitated to fully commit to Linux at first and was advised by my computer to restart and turn off BitLocker. When I booted again with the USB, I encountered a 'something has gone seriously wrong' error. After some research, I learned that Microsoft has put in place restrictions that make dual booting or switching to Linux difficult. I've attempted to reset Windows twice and recreated the bootable USB, but the same error keeps popping up. I also disabled secure boot in the boot menu. At this point, I just want to get rid of Microsoft completely! Any suggestions on how to successfully install Linux Mint, or tips for wiping my hard drive to make a fresh start with Linux?

You're definitely on the right path by trying to get that USB to boot cleanly. But can you share the exact error message? The more detailed info you provide, the better help you’ll get. It could help pinpoint the issue you're hitting.

Don't forget to check the Linux Mint website! There’s a big button for "Installation Instructions" that you should find really helpful.

I recommend trying a Live USB version for now, instead of doing a full install right away. A Live USB runs Linux without needing to install anything, so it's a good way to test things out first! Here are some links to help you get started:

- Debian Live: https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current-live/amd64/iso-hybrid/
- Linux Mint: https://linuxmint.com/download.php
- Ventoy for creating bootable USBs: https://www.ventoy.net/en/index.html

Live USBs are great to "test drive" Linux without removing your current system. Just boot up, explore, and ask more questions here if you need help. Welcome to the community!

Totally agree! Ventoy makes creating a Live USB so much easier. Give it a shot!
