How Can I Improve My Skills in DevOps After Being Thrown into the Role?

I've recently been pushed into a DevOps role, and I've been facing tight deadlines ever since. Because of this, I haven't had the chance to really learn and understand the skills and tools I feel I should know, like Istio or monitoring solutions. While I'm managing to do my job, I feel like I lack depth in my knowledge. I'm eager to change that but I'm lost on where to start. Should I follow some learning roadmaps or try implementing projects? What would you recommend?

Check out roadmap.sh for a comprehensive DevOps roadmap. It’s an older resource but still super useful. Focus on understanding the business problems you want to solve in DevOps rather than just keeping up with the latest trends. Once you’ve gone over the roadmap, revisit it in more depth for better understanding. This framework helped me transition from being just a sysadmin to mastering tools like Ansible and Terraform, which significantly boosted my career.

That's inspirational! I had a similar journey. It really shows how structured learning pays off.

Totally agree! I did a fast run through the tools initially, which helped me get a grasp on what was out there. Then I went back and really dove into the tools that interested me.
