How can I get started on my journey to becoming a software engineer with limited time each day?

I'm 20 years old and aiming to become a software engineer in the next couple of years. I want to learn programming well enough to create useful projects, even if they're small tasks like fixing bugs or automating processes. I realistically have about 20 to 50 minutes each day due to work and school commitments. I've had some exposure to HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and a bit of Java, but I wouldn't say I'm proficient yet. I'm looking for advice on which programming language to focus on first, how to learn efficiently given my limited time, and any recommended resources like courses or books that could help me. My ultimate goal is to build enough skills to qualify for a software engineering job in a few years. Any tips would be appreciated!

What do you study these days? I’m also considering a similar path and would love some insights on your learning progression.

Honestly, dedicating 20 to 50 minutes a day is totally doable if you commit to it consistently. I'd recommend picking **one** language to focus on—JavaScript or Python are great choices—and stick with one solid course for about 3 to 6 months. Don’t worry about finding the 'perfect' resources; just choose something decent and complete it. Make sure to take small notes, and after each lesson, try building something tiny like a button, a simple script, or even a mini-game. Also, don't stress too much about becoming a full-fledged 'software engineer' right away. If you keep at it for a year or two, even with short sessions, you'll be way ahead of others who just talk about learning.

I'd say it's also important to join some programming communities or forums to share your progress and ask for help when needed. Networking with others who are learning can really boost your motivation and provide you with new learning resources.
