How to Stay Safe After Potential Malware Infection?

I recently downloaded a program called Womic and, after running the executable, I scanned it on VirusTotal, which raised flags about it. You can see the results here: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/28f0c4f4ec7135700bda47f306ad121bd48e866f16f8c74224fe4e0cf06a9c26/detection. Interestingly, Windows Defender didn't find any issues, but I panicked and immediately reset my PC. Now I'm wondering if I'm actually safe and whether there's a chance that it stole my passwords. Additionally, I'd like to know if a virus can persist on a computer even after a factory reset where all files and drives are deleted or if I should just reinstall Windows from a USB drive instead.

No need to reflash your BIOS unless you think you specifically got a rootkit. They're pretty rare, but just focus on getting rid of the malware for now.

Honestly, resetting your PC might not be enough. It's better to be safe and reinstall Windows from a USB stick if you suspect malware. Make sure to secure your online accounts afterward. Better safe than sorry!

If your system still boots, you could try running a full scan with tools like CCleaner and Malwarebytes. Just remember, if you're worried about stolen passwords, changing them is crucial no matter what. And yes, enabling 2FA everywhere will add an extra layer of security.

Definitely install Malwarebytes and do a comprehensive scan. It's better to take precautions than regret it later.

Factory resets can be useless if a well-crafted virus is lingering. Reinstalling Windows is a safer bet for long-term peace of mind.
