Can Using My Laptop Like a Desktop Help It Last Longer?

I'm wondering if using my laptop primarily as a desktop setup, connecting it to an external monitor and keyboard, can extend its lifespan. I mostly keep it on my desk and rarely move it around. Would this practice actually help prolong its life?

From my experience, using my laptop in this way has worked out well for over two years. I keep it plugged in almost all the time so the battery doesn't drain much, which has really helped with wear and tear. Sure, dust collects, and the battery won't be great forever, but I think it definitely reduces thermal issues and stress on the hinges, so it's not all bad!

Kind of? Keeping it stationary can alleviate stress on the case from moving it around. Plus, if you use external devices, it makes it easier to keep using the laptop even if the display or battery fails. However, you might lose some of the portability you'd typically want from a laptop.

Honestly, I don't see how connecting a monitor and keyboard makes a big difference in longevity. But I guess if you can avoid using the laptop's own screen and keyboard, it'll help reduce wear and tear on those parts. Just be cautious about battery health with it plugged in constantly.

Using it like a desktop will probably help preserve the hinges and keep it safe from drops and bumps. But don’t forget the battery. Always being plugged in isn't ideal for it, so if you can remove the battery, do that! Also, consider adding an SSD for a quicker experience!

Maybe! If you can keep the battery charged between 40% and 80%, that could help maintain its health. Otherwise, it might be best to remove the battery if you're always plugged in. Just remember that heat can still be a concern, especially if your laptop runs hot when closed.
