Is Windows 11 26H1 Exclusively for ARM Devices?

I'm a bit confused because I've just received my Lenovo ThinkPad E16 Gen 3, which has an Intel Core Ultra 5 225U processor. It surprisingly came with Windows 11 26H1 (build 28000) pre-installed. My understanding is that this version is meant only for ARM devices, specifically for the Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 processor. Has anyone else encountered this version on Intel or AMD systems? And is there any chance it will be provided through Windows Update, considering its limited CPU support?

The document SpotlessCheetah referenced indicates that this is indeed a limited release aimed at Qualcomm processors. It won’t be available as an in-place update from the previous Windows 11 versions either. So for anyone managing IT operations, it’s recommended to stick to Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2 for now. It seems like the best option is to disregard 26H1 for existing devices for the time being.

According to Microsoft’s documentation, the 26H1 version is still technically limited to ARM. However, you might find that installing it on x64 systems is possible, but it doesn’t introduce new features compared to 25H2. If you're looking for something more impactful, 26H2 may be the next major update everyone can access.

Exactly! 26H2 is the one to watch for; it should bring more significant changes that everyone can benefit from.

Yeah, it does seem like you're correct. Currently, Windows 11 version 26H1 is designed exclusively for systems with Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Series processors. Interestingly enough, the documentation also highlights that 26H1 will only be available for new devices with select new silicon that is expected to roll out in 2026. So it looks like it’s not meant for Intel or AMD devices at all. It seems like H1 updates are being treated differently. The underlying code exists, but it won’t be released widely. Functionally, 26H1 on x64 is expected to operate similarly to 25H2, although it’s not publicly available now.
