Hey folks, I recently wrapped up on a TV show and came across an iPad that was reported as lost property about six months ago. I've tried reaching out to the cast and crew multiple times, but no one has claimed it or reported it missing. Since we're moving out of the office and need to sort everything out, I'm wondering if there's any way to wipe or reset this iPad so it can be used again. I went to an Apple Store for help, but they couldn't do anything for me. Is there any way at all to reset it without the password or iCloud information?

Unfortunately, if the iPad is secured with Activation Lock linked to someone's Apple ID, you won’t be able to reset it for reuse. If it allows you to set it up after you wipe it, then great! But if it asks for an Apple ID, you’re stuck. Since it sounds like you’ve already done your due diligence trying to notify the owner, the best option might be to recycle it if it stays locked.
You might want to check if it’s truly tied to someone's iCloud account. If it isn't, you can likely perform a factory reset. Just be cautious; if it displays "locked to owner" after a reset, it's pretty much a paperweight. Maybe consider turning it into the local police or lost and found instead.
It really does happen that people leave devices behind and then forget about them. I've worked events where we've ended up with several valuable items left behind. Since you did all the right things by trying to find the owner, it might be worth giving the iPad to the police or a lost-and-found service.
