iPad Pro Keeps Disconnecting from WiFi – Need Help!

I've recently swapped my main router, and since then, both of my iPad Pros have been disconnecting from WiFi randomly. One of them is a 3rd-generation model, and I suspect the other is as well. Here's what I've been experiencing: sometimes the iPad will disconnect after being connected, and when I go to reconnect it, I either get an 'unable to connect' message or it prompts for a password—even when the password is entered correctly, it often fails to connect after multiple tries.

Before changing the router, I noticed my iPad wouldn't stay connected when the screen was off, though it would reconnect quickly when I turned the screen back on. I thought that was normal, but now it rarely reconnects automatically.

After switching to the new router (a UDR7), which is a tri-band WiFi 7 router, I've made some adjustments. The previous router was a Deco BE23 and before that, a Deco XE75 Pro. All models are tri-band, but with different frequency settings. I've tried changing settings on my iPad like turning off "Private Wi-Fi Address" and "Limit IP Address Tracking," as well as resetting the network settings—none have resolved the issue. The only router change was adjusting the "Default WiFi Speeds" from "Conservative" to "Maximum."

Interestingly, in the client's list on my router, my iPad shows up with two different IP addresses, but only one is online. Right now, the iPad has stayed connected, but it took several attempts at reconnecting prior to this. Any ideas on what's causing this issue and how I might fix it?

I've had a similar experience with my devices! The best approach I found was to make sure you're using the 5GHz band for better stability. If disabling 6GHz doesn't help, maybe double-check your router settings. You might want to consider a firmware update or factory reset for the router as a last resort.

It sounds like the 6GHz band might be causing compatibility issues with your older iPads, particularly if they don't support WPA3, which 6GHz requires. A solid workaround would be to disable the 6GHz band or separate the bands so your iPads connect just to the 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands instead. **As for your question about it disconnecting when the screen is off, that's actually pretty normal—that behavior is designed to save battery.**

If none of these options work, you could try reaching out to your router's customer support—they might have some insights specific to your model. Also, sometimes rebooting the router can resolve weird connection issues. It's worth a shot!
