Help! I Think I Accidentally Downloaded Malware!

I'm really stressed out right now. I just wanted to play some web games when I mistakenly clicked on a download for what I thought was Opera GX. I managed to pause the download, but then a popup asked for permission to operate on another web service, and for some reason, I accepted it! Now, every time I open Chrome or any search engine, I'm getting a "connection not secure" warning with this weird eight-digit error in the search bar. I've tried running temp files and other similar methods I used before, but the suspicious files just keep coming back. I'm worried this malware has access through another device, and I can't disable it because it says it's running on another screen. Can somebody please help me get rid of this before it messes up my laptop even more?

I’ve been in a similar situation before! When I checked my prefetch folder, I found a bunch of sketchy files as well. Make sure you're running a full system scan, and pay close attention to anything that looks suspicious. Just be aware that some of these files can be persistent, so take action quickly!

First off, take a deep breath. It's definitely frustrating, but there are steps you can take. Try restarting your computer in Safe Mode and then download Malwarebytes ADW Cleaner along with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Those should help you get rid of any malware you might have picked up. If that doesn't do the trick, it might be best to take your laptop to a repair shop so the pros can handle it.

Hey, I know you’re panicking, but calm down a bit. Describe what you saw on your screen when you booted up your laptop. Acting overly dramatic won't help. If you stick to the facts, it'll be easier for folks to help you out. By the way, did you check all your browser extensions? Sometimes weird stuff hides there.
