I'm considering an upgrade for my old PC setup, but I'm a bit uncertain due to current market conditions. Right now, I'm using an i5-3470 with 16GB of DDR3 RAM and an R7 240 GPU. I'm thinking about going for an i7-4790k, an H97M Pro motherboard, and 32GB of DDR3 (using the 16GB I already have and just adding two more sticks). But I'm wondering if it's worth it to switch to DDR4 instead. Would I benefit from upgrading to DDR4, or would sticking to DDR3 suffice?

Honestly, I’d recommend considering an affordable Ryzen setup instead. There might be local deals on budget PCs that can outperform your current build, plus DDR3 is going to feel outdated by 2026.
I’d say go for DDR4! Depending on your budget and location, making that switch could really benefit your performance.
What do you mainly use your PC for? If it’s just casual tasks, DDR3 might still be good enough. But if you're into gaming or other heavy tasks, that could change things up.
I use my PC for gaming, music, and writing, so I can't help but think about future-proofing.
For gaming, your GPU might be the bigger bottleneck right now, not your RAM or CPU.
If your current setup meets your needs, there’s really no rush to upgrade. If it works fine for what you do, you might want to save that cash for a more significant upgrade later.

Tell me about it! The struggle is real in my country.
