Hey everyone! I just realized that I have an AWS account that I hardly ever use. I want to make sure I don't end up with any unexpected charges. What steps can I take to prevent that? Is there a way to stop all processes with a single button? Also, is there a method to check for any current charges, or to freeze my account? Would it be safer to just close my account altogether, and if I do that, will I receive any final bills? Additionally, how easy is it to accidentally start services and incur costs? Thanks a lot!

Set up a budget threshold and create an alert on CloudWatch and SNS to your email. Just keep in mind that the alerts aren't real-time, so you might still rack up charges before getting notified.
If you're not using your AWS account, I'd recommend just closing it. Opening a new one later is easy and doesn’t cost anything.
You can check for resources that are generating charges by using the links provided by AWS for unexpected charges. If you want, you can also completely close your account through their specific link.

Exactly! It's not instantaneous, so be cautious. Someone could run up a bill without you knowing until the alert triggers.
