I recently installed Mint Linux Cinnamon on my laptop and set up a user account. However, during the installation, it threw an error saying 'user installation failed.' Now I'm locked out and can't log in to troubleshoot since I don't even know what the password is. Could the installation be corrupted? What should I do?

Which version of Mint were you installing? Did everything work fine while running the live version from the USB? Sometimes issues crop up there too.
There have been some known issues with Mint trying to launch the desktop environment in Wayland instead of X11, which can cause login errors. If you see an option to switch the graphics mode during login, try changing it from Wayland to X11 and see if that resolves the issue. It should work on subsequent logins if it does!
If you’ve just installed Mint, your best bet might be to boot from the USB again and try reinstalling. Just make sure to disable the secure boot option in the BIOS before you do. It can really mess things up during installation!
While I’m at it, I should double-check how the installation was set up. Was it an OEM install, or did I choose a different option?
