Is it better to use 2 x 32GB RAM sticks or 4 x 16GB for a new PC build?

I'm planning a new PC build after nearly a decade and I do a lot of video editing and 3D modeling. My current system has 32GB of RAM with four 8GB sticks but I'm trying to decide whether to go with two 32GB RAM sticks or four 16GB sticks in my new setup. My new components include an ASRock X570 Taichi motherboard, MSI Ventus graphics card with 12GB, an AMD Ryzen 7900X 12-core processor, and I'm considering G.Skill Trident DDR5 RAM at 6400 MT/s. I really want this build to last at least 8-10 years, just like my last one. Any thoughts on which RAM configuration would be better?

For your needs, I’d say 2 x 32GB is ideal. You don’t want to complicate things with 4 sticks, especially if stability is a priority. Keeping it simple is key!

I'd recommend 2 x 32GB. It seems like AM5 platforms do better with fewer sticks. Honestly, you might even want to look at 6000 MT/s RAM if it’s cheaper since you'll get better performance right out of the gate.

Thanks for that tip! I'll definitely keep an eye out for pricing.

2 x 32GB is a solid choice. Running 4 sticks can be unstable on some motherboards, and you want your build to last, right? Stick with the 2 for better reliability.

2 x 32GB is definitely the way to go. This will also leave you with two slots to play with for future upgrades. Just make sure you're getting good quality RAM!

Definitely go with the 2 x 32GB configuration. It’s going to be more stable with your DDR5 setup, and your system is less likely to have compatibility issues. Plus, it keeps your available slots free for future upgrades!

Yeah, I agree! Having those extra slots open could be a lifesaver down the line if you ever want to expand.
