I'm building my first desktop PC (I've had a laptop before), and I'm trying to decide between two CPUs for my setup: the Intel i7 14700F and the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. I'm planning to pair it with a GeForce 5080 and 32GB of DDR5 RAM running at 5200MT. I've heard that the Ryzen is generally better for gaming but it's about $200 more expensive. I'm mainly playing sandbox modded and open-world games at full HD or 2K resolution. Is it worth paying the extra money for the Ryzen 7 9800X3D?

If you aren't going for Ryzen, you might find the 265K to be a better alternative, but I'd strongly recommend avoiding the 13th and 14th gen Intel CPUs if you can.
I'd personally steer clear of the 14th and 13th generation Intel CPUs due to their high power consumption. They've got new models out that are more affordable with better performance. If you're focused on gaming longevity, spending that extra $200 on the 9800X3D pays off. My 5800X3D is still competitive years later!
The 9800X3D is definitely the stronger choice if you have the budget. I've got a couple of LGA 1700 CPUs and I'm not impressed with the chipsets. If I were in your shoes, I'd definitely go with the X3D!
Have you considered the 7800X3D? It delivers almost the same gaming performance as the 9800X3D and tends to run cooler, which is a plus for your build.
For open-world games, you'll really benefit from either the 7800X3D or the 9800X3D due to their extra cache. They're worth the investment if you can swing it!
You might want to look at either the 9700X, 7800X3D, or 9800X3D based on your budget. Each has their strengths depending on what you're willing to spend.
