Need Advice on Upgrading CPU for My New GPU

I've built my gaming rig back in 2018 and currently have an R5 1500X CPU, GTX 1060, and 16GB of DDR4 RAM. Recently, I scored a great deal on an RX 7700XT, which I believe is perfect for 1440p gaming and should serve me well for the next few years. However, I'm concerned about CPU bottlenecking; I think the R5 1500X will struggle to keep up with the new GPU. I'm considering upgrading to an R5 5600X and adding another 16GB stick of RAM to get the most out of my AM4 platform without breaking the bank. I've seen some benchmarks suggesting that the 5600X might still bottleneck the 7700XT though. Should I stick with AM4 or switch to AM5 to avoid performance loss? I typically play games like Cities Skylines 2, Counter Strike 2, and AAA titles like RDR2 and Cyberpunk, and I also use my PC for Blender, video editing, and photo editing. Ultimately, is the R5 5600X a good match for the 7700XT, or will it hold me back significantly?

The R5 5600X is a solid choice, especially for 1440p gaming since your GPU will handle most of the workload. For esports titles like CS2, the CPU does play a crucial role, but the 5600X should manage it just fine without any major headaches.

I switched from a Ryzen 2600 to a 5600X, and the difference was night and day. For a 7700XT combo, it's really effective, especially if you're primarily gaming. If you’re also into video editing and Blender, you might want to consider an 8-core CPU like the Ryzen 5700X or 5800X for better performance in those applications. Just remember to check for a BIOS update for your motherboard before making the switch!

Definitely planning to grab another 16GB stick for 32GB total. An 8-core CPU does sound tempting, but I wonder how much of a real-world difference it would make for my use cases. Also, with AM4 aging, is investing in a new CPU wise if I’ll likely need another upgrade in a few years?

If you can snag a 5700X, that could be your best bet, though it might come with a higher price tag. It's worth considering since it'll handle most games well. That said, the 5600X will still perform decently, especially for your gaming needs. Just keep in mind the kind of games you play and decide based on that!

Have you seen the 5600X bottlenecking the 7700XT in any benchmarks? Is it a significant impact?
