Help! My Hotspot Screen is Damaged – What’s Going On?

I've borrowed a hotspot device from my university to use this semester, but I've noticed that the screen is damaged. There are multi-colored lines obscuring the text, and I'm not sure how it happened. I did plug it into my laptop charger for a short time when I was in a bind, but I can't imagine that's what caused the issue. Could this be the problem? Is the damage likely permanent?

From what you've described, it definitely looks like the screen is damaged. That could be due to a drop or it might just be a faulty screen that failed on its own. If trying a hard reset doesn’t work, you're pretty much out of luck for fixing it yourself.

Honestly, it’s not your device, so I’d recommend taking it back to the university. Just explain that you haven’t dropped it or spilled anything on it, and you’re unsure why this is happening. They should be able to handle the exchange for you.

You could try letting the battery fully drain. Just keep it off for about 30 minutes after it shuts down, and then charge it back up. If the screen doesn’t clear up after that, it's likely that something has physically damaged the display. Also, if you’ve got pets or if you’ve tossed it around in a backpack without any protection, that might have contributed to the damage.
