What are the best alternatives to replace RDM and Sonicwall VPN?

I've taken over an older setup that's still reliant on Sonicwall VPN and RDM, and I'm eager to switch to something better. We have around 9 remote users who access this RDM, so I'm looking for effective alternatives that can enhance our remote access experience.

It's tough to suggest something without more details, but instead of hunting for a direct replacement, think about what you actually need. Do you really require remote desktop? Maybe something like ScreenConnect could work instead. Evaluate if a VPN is absolutely necessary or if you can enable remote access via another tool. Rather than just upgrading to a newer version of your current setup, consider creating a fresh solution that fits your needs better.

This setup is mostly for file storage and running a QuickBooks instance. It’s built around a single host with two VMs, so I lean towards session-based remote software. I did try TeamViewer, but the licensing was way too high.
