Should I Build a Gaming PC in 2026 as a Casual Gamer?

Hey everyone! I'm thinking about building a gaming PC as a step up from my 2021 MacBook Pro (M1). I've used my Mac for light gaming with titles like modded Stardew Valley and Minecraft, but I want to dive into more demanding games like Far Cry 5, RDR2, and The Witcher, which my current setup can't handle at all.

I'm finding it tough to justify the cost of a new PC with current pricing. I've put together a build that I think will meet my needs for high-end gaming at 1080p (and eventually 1440p), while also lasting for several years. I have the money ready to go but I'm not keen on spending a lot if I won't be gaming much. Considering the trends in prices for GPUs, SSDs, and RAM, it feels like it's either buy now or wait over five years.

Is investing in this build worth it for me? Also, any tips on how I could improve my setup or make it more affordable? I've found some better deals for parts that bring the total cost down to around $2.1k AUD. Thanks in advance!

Honestly, building a PC right now is not ideal due to high component prices. However, when you factor in the gaming experience on PC, especially with those titles, it’s top-notch. Your build should easily last for years. I’d recommend swapping out the CPU for either a 7600x for a cheaper option, or the 9600x if you want something a bit faster and cooler. Just remember, prices might go up again later this year, so acting now could save you some cash in the long run!

Definitely check for deals on components; it might save you some serious bucks!

You’ve chosen some great components! Just keep in mind that it’s generally a worse time to build than last year. But waiting too long could mean missing out on gaming as you want. Ask yourself: How much time or money am I willing to spend to game when I want to?

Absolutely! If you want to enjoy those games now, it might be worth the investment despite the timing.

If you’re a casual gamer and prefer longevity, consider opting for an air cooler instead of a liquid cooler. It's simpler and still effective!

Don't forget to look at prebuilt options as well! Sometimes local retailers have competitive prices that could beat DIY setups without sacrificing quality. Just keep an eye out for what’s available near you.

Your build looks solid! Just a heads up, are you sure about matching a black motherboard with white components in a white case? It might clash a bit!
