Hi there! I recently switched from Windows 11 to Linux (specifically CachyOS with hyprland) about two weeks ago. After some adjustments, most of my setup is running smoothly. I'm now on the hunt for a good wireless controller since my current Xbox wireless controller, which I'm using with a dongle, is on its last legs. The main issue I'm facing is that I often have to reinstall the xone driver from GitHub after kernel updates. I'm looking for recommendations on reliable wireless controllers that I can easily purchase in the EU. Thanks for any help!

My Xbox and PlayStation controllers connect effortlessly via Bluetooth, no issues at all! I have an Intel Bluetooth card on my laptop and a Qualcomm dongle on my desktop.

I've been using the 8bitdo Wireless 2 2.4G on Kubuntu, and it works like a charm. Totally recommend it!

Does it work straight out of the box, or do I need to install any drivers or packages from repositories?

I've always preferred PlayStation controllers over Xbox. They feel more natural to me, but I've also had some success with Joycons on my Steam Deck. Never really tried them on my desktop though.

For me, the DualSense controller has been great. It's comfortable and works well with Linux.

You can opt for Bluetooth connections, which eliminates the need for extra drivers. The PS5 controller works really well this way!
