What Linux Distro Should I Use for an Old Dell Vostro for Streaming YouTube?

I've got an old Dell Vostro 1015 with an Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, and a 256GB SATA HDD. It previously had Windows 10 Education, but I wiped it and installed Tiny 10. Now, I'm planning to give it to my younger brother who mainly watches YouTube. I'm looking for recommendations on which Linux distribution would work best for this purpose. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Zorin Lite is a decent option too. It’s really lightweight, which should work well for basic tasks like streaming videos. Definitely a good pick if you're after something easy on resources!

You might want to check out the Distro Selection page to help pick the right one for your needs! Also, considering that your brother will be using it mainly for watching YouTube, keep in mind that 2GB of RAM might limit performance. If possible, boost it to at least 4GB for a better experience! If upgrading isn't an option, Debian Lxde, Fedora Lxde, or Puppy Linux would be solid choices.

Consider upgrading the RAM to at least 4GB if you can. 2GB might not be enough for smooth video streaming, even with a lightweight OS. If that upgrade isn't feasible, go with Debian Lxde or something like Fedora Lxde or Puppy Linux. Just remember to keep your expectations realistic!

MX Linux would be a great choice. It's compatible with older hardware like yours, and it strikes a balance between performance and modern features. Just keep in mind that some newer distros might struggle with the older Core 2 Duo, even though it's 64-bit!

I recommend trying Lubuntu 22.04 LTS or Mint XFCE. Both are lightweight and should run smoothly on your device, plus they're user-friendly! Puppy Linux is also worth considering if you're looking for something even lighter.
