Why Do Websites Think I’m Outside the US?

I've been facing some odd issues lately where it seems like websites think I'm not in the US. For instance, when I tried to download a Windows ISO, I got a message saying it's not available in my region. Also, streaming sites are asking if I'm traveling, among a few other similar occurrences. I'm a bit worried—could this be a sign that I have a virus? I've also noticed Chrome freezing randomly and games crashing, which wasn't an issue before. Am I just overthinking this?

First off, check if you're using a VPN. Sometimes these can mess with your location settings. You can confirm your current location by visiting a site like gps-coordinates.net to see if it matches what you expect.

It's also a good idea to check your regional and language settings just to make sure everything's set correctly. For Windows 11, go to Settings, then select Time and Language, Language and Region, and check your Country or Region settings.

Make sure to check your system for any unexpected VPN software. Open your Task Manager and see if anything looks suspicious or unfamiliar. If you find something that you didn't knowingly install, it's a good idea to remove it.
