I've been noticing that most of my work hours disappear not due to complex tech challenges, but because of repetitive administrative tasks. Things like updating records, managing tickets, checking device statuses, and following up on the same issues again and again eat away at my time. I'm curious about what everyone else finds to be the most frustrating time drains in their IT jobs. What are those tasks that seem small but add up significantly throughout your day?

Filling out change request forms is a nightmare! I have to go through this ridiculous 50-question form just to approve routine updates. It's like pulling teeth—so much wasted time.
You need a standard process where some of that can be automatically approved. It’s crazy how much time is spent just on paperwork.
Honestly, users are a gigantic time waster. Between answering repetitive questions and troubleshooting basic issues, it’s a drain on my time. I spend hours each week just responding to the same queries, especially when they're from VIP users who expect immediate responses.
Right? It feels like every time I send out a company-wide email, I get bombarded with new questions that I've already answered.
And the ‘the internet is down’ calls when it’s just a single user's problem? So aggravating!
For me, it’s definitely having to ask users basic questions that should have been answered by the first-line support team before the ticket gets to me. They have scripts and resources, but it feels like I spend more time reminding their manager of what info I need than actually solving problems. It's so frustrating!
Absolutely! I just send those tickets back every time. They need to feel the pain of their inefficiency; otherwise, it just keeps happening.
I make sure to loop in the manager whenever this happens. It takes a few reminders, but eventually, they get the message.
I’d say checking in on tickets from users who just vanish is a huge time drain. You’re left hanging, and then they come back expecting immediate help when they finally decide to reply.
Right? It’s like they expect you to drop everything the moment they respond after a long wait.
Exactly! It adds up when you factor in all the other interruptions. That constant back-and-forth is exhausting.
I can't emphasize this enough: meetings! So many of them could just be emails. I find myself attending meetings where I contribute nothing, and it's such a waste of time.
Agreed! There’s a meeting for everything now. The agenda gets lost, and often nothing gets resolved.
For sure! I can’t remember the last time a meeting didn’t go over its scheduled time.

It’s the same at my job. We have forms for everything, and it's like a bureaucratic maze!
