Should I Upgrade from a 7800 XT to an RTX 5070?

I'm considering whether I should upgrade my current graphics card, a 7800 XT, which I bought back in 2023 and was satisfied with initially. However, over the last nine months, I've been having major issues with the driver software, especially with AMD Adrenalin causing random crashes and other frustrating problems. On top of that, I've developed some annoying coil whine. I'm now more into singleplayer games and want to enjoy Ray Tracing, but I feel like I'm missing out with my current setup. Since I plan to upgrade my monitor to 1440p soon, I'm looking at potentially switching to an RTX 5070, as I see some deals available in Germany. Would this be a good move?

I recently made the jump from a 7800 XT to a 5070 Ti, and I've been really pleased with the change. I've had consistent issues with driver stability on AMD in the past, so switching to Nvidia has worked well for me, despite knowing they have their own issues too.

I've had some driver problems with AMD too, but I noticed they're much more stable for Linux users compared to Windows.

If you have the budget to upgrade to the 5070, then go for it! The performance boost is significant, but if money's tight, it might not be necessary.

Upgrading to the 5070 might be more of a side grade. The performance uplift is about 15%, which might not be worth the hassle. If you really want to use ray tracing, then it could be beneficial. But I would recommend looking at the 9070 if it fits your budget because it's slightly better and has more VRAM.

Honestly, I'd steer clear of the 5070 for future-proofing reasons, especially VRAM-wise. If you're planning to keep the new card for the next few years, the 9070 might be a better option.

Honestly, your 7800 XT is still pretty solid for 1080p gaming. If you're focused on ray tracing, upgrading to a 5070 might not give you a huge jump in performance. Consider a 5070 Ti instead!
