I recently bought a second-hand computer and was told it had been wiped, but I've run into a problem. After setting it up at home, I encountered the message "The user profile service failed to sign in" when I tried to log in. The previous owner gave me a PIN, but it still doesn't let me sign in. I've attempted a system reset and a cloud install, but neither worked. Running the SFC /scannow found some corrupted files and supposedly fixed them, but the issue remains. I also tried system restore, which resulted in an error, and Safe Mode wouldn't work most of the time. When I managed to access Safe Mode, I got a "Location not available" message. I checked the registry editor under "Profile list" and noticed that the profile is missing the "ProfileImagePath". Right now, I want to know if there are any other troubleshooting steps I can try before I resort to buying a USB to reinstall Windows 11. I really don't want to have to go through that! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like you've tried a lot already! Your best bet now is to create a bootable Windows installer using another computer. Just search for the Windows Media Creation Tool online. You'll need an 8GB or larger flash drive for this. Once it's ready, boot your second-hand computer from that drive and perform a fresh installation of Windows. This should resolve your login issue once and for all!
Yeah, it’s frustrating when you buy something and it turns out to be a hassle. I really hope trying the USB installer works for you! Let me know how it goes.
I'll definitely give it a shot in the morning. Fingers crossed!
Honestly, second-hand computers should be wiped clean before selling. It’s a bit sketchy that it wasn't. Just a heads-up that you might be carrying some risks with this setup. Good luck with fixing it!

Make sure you backup anything important if you can before doing a fresh install, just in case!
