I'm looking to set up an older Panasonic Toughbook for a friend's autistic son who has a huge passion for technology. I want to find the most user-friendly version of Linux that's easy for him to use, along with some free games he might enjoy. Have any of you set up Linux for kids before, especially for children on the spectrum?

If it’s about keeping it simple, you should really consider Ubuntu too. It's really intuitive and comes with a lot of educational apps that might interest him!
For sure! Ubuntu's got solid documentation which would benefit anyone new to Linux.
Keep it simple! Mint is incredibly user-friendly, and it includes a software manager that makes it easy for him to get games and apps. He can always explore more complex options later!
Exactly! Let him go wild with exploring different distributions down the line.
And yeah, if he enjoys the terminal, show him how to use it! It's not as scary as it seems.
You can't go wrong with Debian alongside the KDE desktop environment. It's very stable and offers a lot of flexibility, ideal for someone who might want to tinker a bit!
KDE is pretty great! I think it strikes a balance between usability and customization.
Agreed, Debian is solid for kids interested in learning. Just keep it simple for starters!
Honestly, for a kid who loves tech, I'd recommend starting with Linux Mint. It's super user-friendly and gets the job done without the hassle. Plus, if he gets bored, he can always try out other distributions later!
Totally agree! Mint has a great interface that's easy to navigate, making it perfect for kids.
Exactly! Mint's also got plenty of support and tutorials to help him out if he needs it.
If he’s really into tech, maybe give him a try with Arch Linux later on. It’s a great way to learn everything from scratch, but start with something easier first like Mint or Ubuntu for initial setup.
Yeah, starting off with Arch can be fun, especially if he enjoys learning about the ins and outs of his system.
Agreed! You could also look at KDE Neon or even Zorin OS for a fresh experience!

I also heard good things about Endless OS for learning purposes!
