I'm gearing up for my first PC build featuring a 7800x3d CPU and likely a 9060xt 8GB GPU. The recommended power supply for this setup is around 650W. The catch is, I'm currently in China where prices are significantly lower—at least 30% compared to Canada, where I'll be returning in two weeks. My concern is about customer support when I'm back in Canada, especially if I buy a PSU here.
From what I've gathered, most PSUs are made in China or Taiwan, even the top brands like Corsair, MSI, and ROG. In the event of needing warranty support or an RMA, will I face issues? Do these companies have support facilities in the West, or do I need to send the unit back to the original manufacturers?
Also, I want to confirm that power supplies from China should be fine in Canada as long as they're designed to handle a range of input voltages. I've been looking at the Seasonic core gx 650W, which seems reputable, and I like that Seasonic manages their own manufacturing and has some presence in the West.
Here are my thoughts on buying in China:
Pros:
- Cheaper price (about 40 CAD difference after conversion and taxes)
- I can test the build before returning to Canada
Cons:
- Expect poor support once I'm back in Canada, making it risky to buy a unit that might require assistance
- Additional weight for my flight back
- Uncertainty if my setup with DDR5 and adapters will even work, as mentioned in a previous post.

If you buy your PSU in China, be aware that there often won't be warranty coverage outside that region. For example, I used a malfunctioning Asus PSU and it turned out the warranty was only valid in Vietnam, so I couldn't get it replaced. Is saving 40 bucks worth the potential hassle? Think about it!
I recommend getting at least a B tier PSU that's ATX 3.x compatible for better longevity. I’ve been using the Seasonic Core GX since 2022 and it’s been fantastic. The latest versions have great ratings (around B-) and they handle a full voltage range. You should be good with that choice!
Most new power supplies handle voltages from 110V to 240V, so you only need the right wall plug. Typically, they use a C14 connection with a C13 power cord, just make sure to get the correct end for Canada. Corsair and Seasonic are great picks, plus EVGA has solid options too. A 650W PSU should work fine, but going for 750W would give you a little more headroom just to be safe.
If you can find good deals, I’d say go for a higher wattage, maybe 750W or even 850W. It's better to have extra power for future upgrades than to deal with regrets later. My Corsair has been solid so far!
