Help! My GPU Got Damaged by a Spill – Can It Be Saved?

I accidentally spilled some Sprite on my girlfriend's gaming PC. After quickly drying it off, everything seemed fine for a while, but then the display lost signal randomly. We took out the GPU since that was the part that got wet and cleaned it thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol. It worked fine for a day but now it's back to not displaying. If I restart the PC, it sometimes works again but then shuts off randomly. Before I spend $300 on a new GPU, does anyone have tips on salvaging this one? Thanks!

Are you certain it was just the GPU that got splashed? With any liquid damage, the best first step is to fully disassemble everything. You could still have liquid trapped under other components like the VRAM or the motherboard, which would make repairs impossible.

We checked really well, and it seemed like the GPU was the only part that got wet.

It might be too late for the GPU. If something shorted out, it could have overheated and failed. Repairing it isn't easy, and it's not something most people can do. Just remember, if something like this happens again, make sure to disassemble the components and clean them with IPA before turning anything back on.
