Hey everyone! I'm considering building a PC specifically for university tasks and gaming at 1440p, especially to play demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077. I'm also focused on future-proofing, so I want to ensure it remains viable for several years without becoming obsolete too quickly. Here's the parts list I'm looking at:
- AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
- Gigabyte AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT Gaming OC ICE 16GB
- Kingston NV3 1TB M.2 NVMe Internal SSD PCIe Gen 4
- ASUS B850M AYW GAMING WIFI MATX Motherboard
- G.SKILL Ripjaws M5 RGB for Intel XMP / AMD EXPO 32GB
- DEEPCOOL PQ1000G White 1000W ATX 3.1 Power Supply 80 Plus Gold
- NZXT Kraken 240 240mm AiO Water Cooling
- Phanteks XT PRO Ultra Tempered Glass ATX Case
I have a decent grasp of PC components, but I worry I might be leaning towards an 'I need the best' mentality. Also, can someone explain the differences between GPUs from various manufacturers? Are they just about cooling, or is there more to it? Thanks a lot!

For what you're planning, the Ryzen 7 9700X is a bit overkill when it comes to gaming alone. If you're just into gaming and basic university work, consider a 7600(X) or even a 9600(X), as they provide very similar performance at a lower cost. The higher-end x3D processors are great if you're aiming for top performance, but they're not strictly necessary unless you're really into gaming. And yeah, all RX 9070 XTs are essentially the same, it boils down to cooling solutions and some software tweaks, but nothing too major. You might save some cash by switching out a few components while still getting solid performance!

Would going with an AMD Ryzen 5 7500X3D be a better fit then?
