Hey everyone! I'm a new user from Belgium and I need some advice on upgrading my gaming setup. I've had my PC for about 6-7 years, and I'm using a 1440p 144Hz Acer Predator monitor. I usually play games on high or ultra settings because I really enjoy good visuals, but lately, my current build seems to struggle with newer games, especially when trying to maintain high framerates at those settings.
Here are my specs:
- CPU: R7 2700x
- GPU: Gigabyte RTX 2080Ti Windforce 11G
- RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200 Mhz Corsair Vengeance
- PSU: Corsair HX 750i
- CASE: Phanteks Enthoo Evolv
- MOBO: Asus Prime x470-PRO
- CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken x62
I'm not a big fan of DLSS and my GPU doesn't support FrameGen, so I'm looking for other options. I'm considering upgrading my GPU to something like a 5070Ti or RX 9070 XT, but I've heard that my CPU and RAM might bottleneck the performance. I'm also unsure if it would make sense to upgrade to a new CPU, like the R7 5800XT, and how much that would boost my overall experience at 1440p or even 4K. I'm looking for some opinions on the best route to take without having to build a completely new system or spending a fortune!

Upgrading to a new high-end GPU like the RX 9070 XT is definitely a solid move for 1440p gaming. However, keep in mind that if you want to push for 4K, it might put a lot of strain on the rest of your build. You might want to consider a full rebuild down the line since 4K gaming can be quite pricey. For now, if you're focused on 1440p, enhance your GPU while maybe looking into a CPU upgrade later on.
If you're serious about keeping ray tracing in mind, then getting a 5070Ti could be beneficial. The 5800X is a fantastic upgrade as well! It will definitely lessen any bottleneck issues. If you're fine avoiding ray tracing, then the 9070XT is excellent for higher framerates in 1440p. Just try to see if you can get a deal on those newer parts because prices have been all over the place!
Honestly, a GPU upgrade will yield noticeable improvements, even if you stick with your current CPU for now. A 5600X would also help a lot in maximizing the GPU's potential without costing too much. I'd recommend doing the GPU first and then tackling the CPU when the prices are better. Stick with your RAM for now unless you absolutely need more.
That makes sense! Just getting a 9070XT sounds like it would be a great boost. I can always revisit the CPU when I have the funds.

Yeah, I totally want to avoid building a new PC if I can help it. Just upgrading the GPU seems more reasonable. I'm hoping to manage around 100 fps at 1440p without breaking the bank!
