My Rear Case Fan Died, Can I Use a Standard Fan Instead?

I've got a 6-year-old PC and my rear case fan recently stopped working. It connects through a 6-pin connector to a fan controller that manages three front panel fans. Unfortunately, I can't find any 6-pin fans or similar replacements either in stores or online in my country. While my front fans are RGB, I don't mind if they don't match or light up — I just need a fan that works for airflow. My question is, can I just buy a standard fan and connect it directly to my motherboard? Also, does my motherboard even have the right slot for it? I know it's a budget model, the H310M DS 2.0, and I'm not that familiar with different connectors. Any help would be really appreciated!

Your motherboard does have two 4-pin PWM fan headers. One of those is likely already occupied by the CPU fan. You can connect a standard case fan to the other header without any issues.

Yes, that motherboard has a CPU fan header and another one for system fans. The system header automatically adjusts fan speed based on your motherboard's temperature, which is great for case fans. But I'm curious about the 6-pin connector you mentioned — it might be a mix of standard fan and RGB pins. If that's the case, you might also be able to get an adapter that would let you use any standard fan.

I appreciate the info! Just to clarify, if one header is already taken by the CPU fan, can the other one be used for the controller? I’m not super technical, so I’m a bit lost. If you can guide me on the connector type, I can try to give you more details!

Of course! Typically, you can use the remaining header for the controller, depending on its pin configuration. If you can find out what type of 6-pin you have, that would help greatly! There are a few adapters out there that might do the trick.
