My friend needs to send a substantial amount of video footage to the police and his insurance company related to his stolen truck. He has three hours of 4K footage which totals around 2 terabytes. He specifically needs to send 25 minutes of this footage to the insurance company. I suggested he could copy all the footage onto a flash drive and upload the 25-minute segment to a cloud storage service like TeraBox. Is that a good approach, or is there a more effective solution?

Uploading the footage to YouTube and sharing a private link could work. It’s a simple way to let them view the needed sections without sending massive files directly.

Sending such a large file online is going to be difficult. The best option might be to store everything on an external drive and mail it directly to them. Just make sure to package it well!

If the file is still too big after editing, using a program like DaVinci Resolve to clip just what they need and then compressing it with Handbrake should do the trick. 1080p is typically more than enough for this kind of situation.

That 4K footage shouldn’t be so huge. You should consider using Handbrake to re-encode it to a more efficient format like H.265 or AV1. You could probably reduce the size significantly without losing quality!

Trim the video down to just the 25 minutes they need. You can also re-encode it to 720p to make the file size more manageable and then upload it to a cloud storage drive to share.
