Unexpected Charges from Azure for Using Anthropic Models – Need Advice!

I'm seeking advice regarding a hefty charge of £2600 that my startup unexpectedly incurred from using Anthropic models through Microsoft Azure AI Foundry. Throughout our usage, the Azure billing dashboard consistently showed £0 due to our startup credits. We actively monitored our costs daily without any indication of additional charges outside our credits. However, we were blindsided when we received the invoice.

There was no clear warning in the UI or documentation indicating that third-party models like Anthropic wouldn't be covered by our Azure Sponsorship credits, leading us to assume everything was included. To complicate matters, we're unable to see a detailed breakdown of these charges:
- Cost Management shows no relevant usage.
- Azure Sponsorship still reflects usage under credits.
- There's no visible way to track what led to this invoice.
- Even recent usage over the last 10 days does not seem to match any costs.

As an early-stage startup without any revenue yet, this unexpected charge is particularly challenging. I'd love to know if anyone has faced a similar situation with Anthropic on Azure before, whether they managed to get a refund or credits applied, and if there's a way to see detailed usage for these charges. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

This isn't uncommon at all. I've seen others with the same unexpected charges popping up. It's probably due to the complexities in Azure's ecosystem, and they really need to improve that. For now, contact support for that usage breakdown and keep pushing for clarity on the invoice. Good luck!

Thanks for confirming it’s not just me! I’ll definitely demand a full breakdown since the interface made it all seem like I wasn’t spending anything.

You're not the only one, this happens more often than you’d think. Sponsorship credits don't cover third-party services, and that’s mentioned in their documentation. It might be worth sticking your case in support’s hands and really pushing for that breakdown of your usage. You might get some goodwill credits due to the visibility issues, which is worth asking for!

I read about similar issues folks have had before, and it really seems like the transparency with billing needs a lot of work. Might be worth considering alternative services for future projects.

It’s a tough spot to be in, but honestly, it seems like you might have missed some key details in the terms for your sponsorship credits. They usually state that third-party marketplace offerings aren't included. It’s definitely frustrating when things like this happen, especially without clear alerts. I'd recommend closely reading the sponsorship conditions next time, and yes, reaching out to Anthropic could be a shot for getting some sort of credit or waiver.

I was checking my usage too, and it showed zero costs every day as well! So it felt really misleading. It's definitely a UX issue if the system doesn’t reflect real charges.

Honestly, Azure can be pretty convoluted, and it’s easy to get trapped in confusing pricing structures. I recommend setting up alerts for costs next time, if you can. It's frustrating, but hopefully, support can help shed some light on this unexpected charge. Hang in there!

This issue seems widespread based on forum discussions. Azure tends to obscure costs with third-party services. I'd suggest documenting everything and ensuring support acknowledges the oversight. You need transparency in your billing, especially as a small startup trying to navigate these waters.

Exactly! It's disheartening when the system's reporting doesn't match the billing. I feel like they have a responsibility to keep their users informed.
