How can I create a shortcut to close windows in Windows 11?

As a former Linux user who's just switched back to Windows, I'm finding it really frustrating to close windows quickly. I'm looking for a way to set up a shortcut like Win + Shift + Q that would either mimic Alt + F4 to close the focused window or provide a better shortcut option. I attempted to use an AutoHotkey script to accomplish this, but unfortunately, many anti-cheat programs recognize AutoHotkey processes as cheating tools. Any advice on how to solve this?

Why not just stick with Alt + F4? If you're already familiar with it from before, it’s right there and shouldn’t be too hard to get used to again!

I prefer having my shortcuts customized to what I’m used to from Linux environments. It just works better for me!

If you’re looking to set up a command, you can use PowerToys to customize the 'Win + Shift + Q' shortcut to close windows. Just a quick note that it's quite a large app if you're not using the other features, though!

Yeah, I get that. PowerToys feels like bloat for just key mapping. If all you need is the shortcut, there’s got to be a lighter solution out there.

Are there specific applications you need to close? You might be able to use a TASKKILL command to close specific apps directly, which could be a simpler way.

You can simply use Alt + F4 to close the active window, or just click the X in the corner of the window if that’s easier for you. There’s always the classic method!

Ctrl + W works really well for closing many windows, too. It’s about the same hand position as Alt + F4, so that might make things easier for you.
