I'm looking for advice on how to recover text messages that were deleted about two years ago from a client's phone. As a paralegal, I want to assist them with data recovery for a case. We've considered getting a signed order if needed, but I'm not sure where to begin. Any suggestions or avenues that could help us retrieve these messages would be greatly appreciated!

I hear you! You might want to contact the cell provider for any records they could have. They generally keep logs of messages for a limited time. A forensic audit of the phone is another option, but that can cost a lot and isn’t guaranteed to find anything from two years back.
It sounds tough, but unfortunately, recovering texts from two years ago is really unlikely. Most messaging apps, like Google Messages, permanently delete conversations immediately or after a short period, usually 30 days. If the client didn't act immediately after the deletion, the chances are slim now.
Exactly! Unless they had some backup system in place, it's going to be tricky. But it might help to check if their phone provider can pull anything up, just in case.
At this point, it's pretty much a lost cause. Even data recovery techniques generally require the phone not to have been used after the texts were deleted. If the device was powered on and new data written, chances of recovery are almost zero.

Definitely reach out to the provider. You might get lucky if they have some logs or backups!
