Why Does My SSD Freeze at 100% Usage When Space Is Low?

I've just purchased a brand new 1TB SSD, and I've run into a strange problem. When downloading files, everything works smoothly as long as I have over 600GB of free space. However, once my available space drops below that threshold, the SSD gets stuck at 100% usage and can exhibit outrageous response times, sometimes hitting 50000 ms! Stopping the download doesn't help, and the only way I can regain access to the drive is by completely restarting my PC and deleting the download to free up space. I've tried a few troubleshooting methods like running chkdsk, formatting the SSD, and testing different SATA connections, but nothing seems to work. In the event viewer, I see multiple errors related to this issue. One of the bigger concerns is an error mentioning a failed IO operation on the disk, which makes me think there's a larger issue at play. Strangely, if I don't restart after the freeze, it seems like the SSD disconnects from my PC entirely. Overall, I'm at a loss and hoping someone might know what's going on.

Just saw your update! Glad you ran H2testW and found it was a fake. At least your system files are safe. Thanks for keeping us in the loop!

Did you check if there are any SMART errors? It's worth running something like H2testW to verify if it's actually a legit drive. Updating the firmware might help too.

It sounds like you might have bought a counterfeit SSD. It's common for fake drives to show large capacities that they can't actually handle. Where did you purchase it from? If the price was too good to be true, that could be a red flag.

Are you on Windows or Linux? If it's Windows, there are tools you can use to check the SSD for authenticity. If you're using Linux, considering checking it with a tool called 'f3.' Honestly, if it's blocking you from downloading after reaching that limit, it might be a fake.

Honestly, it sounds like you might have been scammed. I know it can suck to realize that, but it's better to find out now before you lose more data.
