Help! Upgraded My Mac’s Optical Drive to Blu-Ray and Now It Won’t Boot

I recently attempted to swap out my Mac's optical drive for a Blu-Ray one, but now my Mac won't turn on. The model I have is the Apple MacBook Pro "Core 2 Duo" 2.53 15" (SD), and the new drive I've installed is a UJ-267 BD-Recorder. Everything appeared to fit perfectly, so I'm puzzled about what went wrong. I did move a cable that runs along the drive and connects nearby, but I'm not sure if that's the issue. I also unplugged the battery while working on it. When it was all put back together and plugged in again, it just wouldn't boot. I'm feeling pretty frustrated and could really use some advice on what to check next!

I understand your pain! Sometimes, when you change hardware components, it can introduce unexpected issues. Did you double-check all the connections? If you suspect damage, closely examine the logic board and cables for any scratches or shorts. If all else fails, trying to reset the SMC (System Management Controller) might help. Just be careful!

Thanks for the tip! I didn’t think about the SMC. I'll try that next—for now, I'm just trying to figure out where I might have gone wrong.

You might want to check whether that cable you moved is properly reattached. It could be the camera cable, which is often sensitive. If the BD drive is drawing more power than your Mac can provide, you might have an issue there too. I recommend going through the disassembly steps outlined in a repair guide to retrace your actions and see if anything looks off. Good luck!

That guide you shared was super helpful! I checked my model against it and all seems good. I even went back to the original drive, but no luck. It’s frustrating because everything looks intact!
