I'm new to building PCs and hoping to get some advice on selecting the best GPU. I'm aiming for competitive online gaming at over 250 fps and would like to run AAA games at 100+ fps on decent settings (not ultra or 4K, I'm good with 1080p to 1440p). Additionally, I need something suitable for work, file organization, and everyday tasks. I'm also looking for the best value for my money, ranging from budget to higher-end options.

The first thing you need to consider is your budget and how the rest of your system is set up. Also, think about your specific use case, which is pretty important. You've provided a great starting point for that!

If you’re looking at a budget of around $200-$300, going for a used GPU is probably your best bet. There’s not much new worth buying in that range. For around $300 AUD, you might find a 3060 12GB used, or check out the Intel Arc B580 as a new alternative at about the same price.

Totally agree, used is the way to go at that price point. Best to check locally, as online prices can be inflated.

Make sure to weigh these things when choosing a GPU: 1) Price - Check how different cards compare. 2) Features - VRAM, ray tracing, etc., depending on what you'll use the GPU for. NVIDIA cards often handle creative tasks like video editing better than AMD. 3) Aesthetics - Sometimes the look of the GPU matters too. For your needs, the RX 9060XT might be a solid option!
