I'm looking for creative solutions to store patch cables, both copper and fiber, as well as DACs, power cables, and more. I'd like to keep everything organized by length and color, and any tips for tool storage would be a bonus!

We use a buckhorn bin system for our server room, which ties in with our library operations too. They stack nicely on shelving, making it easy to store cables, connectors, and supplies. It keeps things organized!
I don't have a lot of cables, so I just use a cardboard box with Ziplock bags for the loose ones. It stops them from tangling, and it's super easy to grab what I need when I need it. Adding Ziplock bags was a game changer for organizing my spare parts at home too!
Definitely, it’s a lifesaver for keeping all those random parts together!
It really depends on how much space you have. I’ve seen setups using everything from plastic totes to modular storage units. Just a heads up, cardboard storage is usually not preferred since it can be banned in some colo facilities.
We sort our cables by type, like CAT6, power, and USB, and by length, but skip color sorting since it's typically obvious. We use bins that stack on shelving units, making for quite a few organized compartments!
I like to hang my cables from long pegs on the wall. Each type of cable goes on its own peg, which keeps everything visible and easy to grab, while still being compact.

I love this upgrade idea! Ziplock bags really help keep things tidy.
