Has Anyone Experienced the Elon Musk Email Scam?

I recently heard about a scam floating around Instagram and Discord featuring Elon Musk. It involves posts claiming that you can earn money by entering your email. I think I might have encountered it because it attempted to log into my Microsoft account and used my Discord and Instagram to send out similar messages. Luckily, it didn't change any of my passwords. I'm wondering if anyone knows more about this specific scam or malware? Do I need to completely reinstall my operating system, or will restarting my PC and securing my accounts be enough?

Sounds like you're dealing with a common phishing attempt. Since it logged into your accounts without changing your passwords, you should definitely secure those accounts. Restarting your PC is fine, but consider running malware removal software to check for anything harmful. Reinstalling your OS is usually a last resort unless you notice ongoing issues.

Yeah, that's a classic scam designed to fish for your information. Billionaires like Elon Musk aren't giving away free cash, so be wary of anything like that. For your situation, I would recommend changing your passwords immediately and enabling two-factor authentication wherever possible. Restarting your PC is a good first step, but I’d also run a malware scan just to be safe.
