I'm currently working with an Intel i5 14600KF processor paired with a Thermalright Phantom Spirit EVO 120 cooler and using MX-4 thermal paste. I want to know the best technique for applying the thermal paste—should I go for a line, a dot, or maybe another method?

I'd suggest using a cross pattern or even a simple dot for the Intel i5-14600KF. Some people also use four small dots in the corners, which can work well too. Just keep it thin and even!

That sounds reasonable, but I noticed in some guides they use square processors. Is it different for the 14600KF since it's rectangular?

Honestly, any method you choose will generally work just fine. I’ve used both the dot and line technique myself without any issues. It really depends on what you feel comfortable with.
