Should I choose the Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 9800X3D for my RTX 5070 build?

I'm upgrading my PC soon and I'm considering two CPU options: the Ryzen 7 7800X3D for 320 euros or the 9800X3D for 450 euros. I already have an RTX 5070, and I'm gaming primarily at 1080p, with a possibility of moving to 2K in the future. I'm also planning to get either 32GB or 64GB of RAM, depending on prices. I'm curious if the performance boost from the 9800X3D justifies the additional cost, especially since I play titles like CS GO, Fortnite, and look forward to newer releases like the new Metro and GTA 6. Does the extra price for the 9800X3D make sense for my setup?

Honestly, the 7800X3D is a smart choice for your build, especially with the RTX 5070. Benchmarks show it performs excellently in competitive shooters and handles demanding single-player games quite well. The 9800X3D's performance gain for your setup doesn't justify the extra cost right now. Plus, sticking with 32GB of RAM is wise given the current DDR5 shortages. You can use the savings for a 1440p monitor instead!

Exactly, the 7800X3D should serve you well. And if RAM prices drop later, you can always upgrade! I wouldn't overspend now.

Forget about the 9800X3D and get the 7800X3D. Pairing it with the 5070 is a solid combo, and you won't regret going with 32GB of RAM. Save your cash for future upgrades if you need them!

You're on the right track with the 7800X3D. The 9800X3D might offer slightly better performance, but for the price jump and with your planned setup, it's not worth it. A solid 1440p monitor will make a bigger difference than the CPU upgrade at this stage.

Definitely go for the 7800X3D, especially if you're happy with your RTX 5070. No need to overspend on the 9800, as you won't see a huge difference with your current components. Stick to 32GB of RAM for now; 64GB is often overkill for gaming.

I totally agree! If you’re okay with 32GB, that’s really all you need for gaming. Focus on the monitor upgrade with the budget instead!

If you're gaming mainly at 1080p and aiming for smooth frame rates, the 7800X3D is definitely enough. It's designed to maximize frames without bottlenecking your GPU. Just make sure you optimize graphics settings with the Nvidia app, and try adjusting some resolution settings for an even smoother experience.
