Help! Windows Security Quarantined an App I Need – What Should I Do?

I'm having a frustrating issue with my Windows 11 Pro system. I'm the only user of my personal home machine, but recently Windows Security has quarantined and removed an application that I've trusted and used for years, marking it as 'SEVERE' in the Protection History. Even after attempting to restore it, the app is still missing from my start menu. Additionally, I can't add the app as an exclusion in Windows Security because it claims that 'Changing exclusions has been disabled by your administrator.' This is baffling since I am the administrator of this machine. I'm looking for help to get this app restored and fix this weird admin privileges problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

If all else fails, you might want to temporarily disable Windows Security to restore your app, but do this carefully. Always have backups of your data just in case things go haywire. Also, be cautious about restoring any apps from quarantine and ensure they're totally safe.

It sounds like Windows Security might have mistaken your app for a potential threat. Try checking if it's truly a false positive. Also, if you've signed in to any apps or websites using a work or school email, Windows might have applied different rules to your settings based on that. You can attempt to check your Windows account settings to see if there are any permissions issues.

Before doing anything drastic, ensure that your application is indeed safe and is downloaded from its legitimate source. If it was a recent update that triggered this quarantine, it could be linked to a malware infection, especially if you're using well-known apps that could be targets, like CPU-Z.

Make sure to run a full system scan with your antivirus software to rule out any malware. If needed, consider reinstalling the app after ensuring your system is clean. You can also look into your security settings to see if there are any restrictions affecting your account.
